Web Deployment & Configuration Engineer - Java/Uni
Web Deployment & Configuration Engineer - Java/Unix - Slough (Contract)
We at Cognizant are seeking a Web Deployment & Configuration Engineer to join our onsite team responsible for the deployment & configuration of web applications for this leading Telecommunications giant, based in Slough. This is a long-term contract.
Responsibilities:
Team's key activities are configuration and deployment of customer facing, web based services
- Interaction with the development, test, support, change management, operational and environment teams
- Utilisation of the Agile framework to manage the tasks involved in rolling out the applications
- Deploying and configuring applications in Unix based environments
- Creating technical documentation for various target audiences
- Gain an understanding of platforms in terms of how a customer clicking on a link on a web page affects & interacts with each tier of he platform it passes through to create & deliver a response
Key Skills and Experience:
- Deep understanding of deployment processes
- Working knowledge of key web technologies: HTTP, TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS
- Deploying & configuring applications in Unix based environments
- Source control management tools, ie SVN
- Administering Java application Servers, ie Tomcat and Weblogic
- Working knowledge of release cycles and processes
- Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines
- Application debugging skills from application log analysis through to analysing system resource usage
- Apache httpd configuration
- Application load balancing
- Virtualisation, ie Solaris LDOMs/Xen/VMWare
- Desire & ability to understand complex platforms from end-to-end
- Technically competent & confident
Long-term contract
- Bachelors/Masters Degree preferable
