Manufacturing Test Engineer (Quality), CON

This is a multifaceted role which involves Test Engineering in a Manufacturing environment, quality management of the production of high volume Variable Speed Drives and team leader responsibility for 4-5 employees.

The role holder will report to the relevant Manufacturing Manager for this product base and will have team leader responsibilities for technicians and repair specialists.

Tasks:

PCB In Circuit testing and Final Assembly Testing using Teradyne Spectrum in-circuit test platforms, Agilants and Genrad.

Testing products in a high power high voltage environment - 3 phase 400V power system test systems and test methods including:
  • Electrical safety and risk assessments
  • Final Products Testing Methods
  • Use of high voltage/power switchgear systems
  • Use of Power System controls (PLCs, PCs and test instrumentation)
The day to day management and ownership of quality, cost and delivery expectations, through:
  • Managing production yield performance, excess cost and defects
  • The ongoing support and deployment of Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Test equipment and process availability, capability and performance
  • Using Intranet based systems to analyse Real Time and past performance data to identify trends and make output and quality improvements.
  • Feeding quality data and analysis into regular management meetings
Line manager to the 1st line technical support team, consisting of product repair and test support technicians:
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and technical support to the 1st line technical support team.
  • Approve holiday requests, cascade performance management outcomes and be first point of contact for all employee related issues.
  • Strategic planning and implementation of new test processes (when necessary) and technology
What do I need to qualify for this job:
  • ESSENTIAL: HNC/HND or Engineering Degree qualified in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • ESSENTIAL: Good knowledge of C programming.
  • ESSENTIAL: Manufacturing Engineering background with electrical products.
  • ESSENTIAL: Test Experience with Agilants, Teradyne and Genrad
  • ESSENTIAL: Health and Safety Requirements (EHSR) directives and best practice associated with dealing with HV power systems.
  • ESSENTIAL: Understand and appreciate high power and switch gear systems.
  • ESSENTIAL: Good communication/presentation skills to all levels of the organisation.
  • ESSENTIAL: IT literate including MS Office, MS Visio, MS Project and SharePoint.
  • ESSENTIAL: Must be able to work in a pressurised environment.
  • PREFERABLE: Experience in a Manufacturing Test Environment.
  • PREFERABLE: Quality analysis and management in a manufacturing environment.
  • PREFERABLE: Previous experience of managing a small team or undertaking some team leader responsibilities.
Additional Information:
Willingness to travel, occasionally, within the UK and internationally.
