Position: Database Administrators – Data Management (MSSQL & Linux)
Location: Slough based
Salary: £30-40k Basic

ROLE:
The Database Administrator will assist with delivering the company data strategy and provide a pro-active service to the business by ensuring data management policies and procedures are being followed and identifying and suggesting any areas for improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Conduct DBA Checks, Monitoring and Managing Database Resources. Monitor integrity checks, backups, optimisation jobs and respond to job failure alerts.
b) Attend to, investigate, and escalate calls in the Data Management queue as priority. Provide ad-hoc support, within defined SLAs, to the UK Support Desk and assist with query and report writing.
c) Maintaining & Improving Database Server Backups & Restore Procedures and disaster recovery procedures.
d) Maintenance & Upgrade of Live Environment: Performance monitors live servers for memory, CPU, hard-disk, bottlenecks; maintain production DBA scripting; and manage database security.
e) Test upgrades, service packs and changes to replication/distribution systems. Rebuild replication/distribution servers and document the test environment configuration.
f) Assist with planning migrations to new versions or service packs with R&D.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Commercial experience in managing production SQL environments.
b) Production DBA experience with MS SQL Server.

DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Understanding of Linux (Debian preferred) or Postgres.
b) Proficiency in profiling/ tracing application data execution paths.
c) Experience of large scale environments (>100 data servers) or investigating issues in OLTP environments or data warehousing.
